The Plot

Well, I’ve now been down to the plot about 3 times since the council strimmed all the weeds back. It’s not in bad condition – a bit of dock and couch grass and a light covering of normal grass, not too bad at all considering it wasn’t cultivated for almost a year.

I have decided to go for a bed system and now have the wood ready and waiting in the back yard at home. Will be cutting it down to size and building mostly 2.4m x 1.2m beds, I’ll then grass the paths in between.

I’ve also been madly planning what I’m going to grow and have signed up the Growveg Garden Planner site which for a bit of a techie like me is great! So I’ve ordered a variety of seeds from Real Seeds who sound like a great company – small, environmentally sound and just nice people, they even encourage you to save seed and not buy from them again. Sounds good to me.

Photos to come

I have an allotment!

I have just heard from the council that I have been granted an allotment. Not sure whether it’ll be a full or half plot yet – hopefully half as there’s only two of us and a full one may be a bit much for a beginner!

I’ve been growing a bit in the back yard for the last couple of years but was rapidly short of space for anything other than a few runner beans, tomatoes and the like. Did try squash once but it went everywhere, even tried to get into next door’s garden. So a bit more space will be great.

Anyway, before I go any further I’ve started this blog more for my reference than anyone else’s but you’re still allowed to read it!

Oh and I’m based in Exeter, Devon and the plot is at the Hamlin Lane site.

Can’t wait to get started….
